Claudell Washington, Gene Garber Get Pummeled

Claudell Washington, Gene Garber Pummeled at Sandwich Shop

REUTERS NEWS WIRE - June 11, 1990 - Camden, SC - It was a regular evening for two former Braves players grabbing a bite to eat at a local sandwich shop. But everything changed in a flash when a plumber entered the restaurant and attacked Claudell Washington, former Braves outfielder, and Gene Garber, former Braves relief pitcher, with a barrage of back punches. Bystanders said the angered man delivered a series of 34 to 35 punches to the backs of the two former Braves simultaneously, eventually rendering them both unconscious. The man took Gene Garber's sandwich but left Claudell Washington's panini on the table. Police are still looking for a plumber named, Randolph Gray.
